His Timing. Not Mine.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9 NIV

There are so many things that we want to achieve in our lives and we create goals because of our desire to have success. This usually means that we want to accomplish said goals in a set timeframe. We create timelines for ourselves; 5, 10, 15...year plans in attempt to structure our lives around our dreams. And while these plans aren’t bad in and of themselves, they have been created for the entirely wrong reasons.

When we decide to create these timelines for our lives, what we are ultimately doing is telling God that His plan for us isn’t enough. We are telling Him that we think we have more control over the timing of our lives than the One who actually created it.

However, we don’t actually have this control over our life’s timing. We can’t make certain things happen in the future simply because we want them to, but God can and He does.

If He willed the entire universe into existence, what’s stopping Him from doing the same with our lives? God has a plan for each and every one of His children that is far better than the one we could create for ourselves. His thinking is so much higher than our own and His ways are so much greater that what we may think is great pales in comparison to what God thinks is good.

Although we may not like where God has us currently, there is always a bigger plan in motion. We can learn something from the place we are in when we accept that God’s timing is perfect. And when we accept our current placement, we can walk through it with joy and confidence in God’s plan for our lives. We can allow Him to lead us to where we are truly meant to be when we are meant to be there.

Once we accept that our own plans for our lives will fail and not prosper, we can embrace God’s true plan with faith. We are free to walk into the life He has planned trusting that He has it all under perfect control. There is no need to worry or stress about the future when we trust in the One who created it.

We don’t have to create timelines for our lives anymore. We can throw the 5 year plans down the drain because we don’t need them. We can choose to trust in His plan and His timing because it is always without fault. All we have to do is let go of ourselves and grab hold of our God.

His timing, not mine. Every Time.
