Thanksgiving Is Not Just For One Day

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Spending time with family while eating all of the yummiest foods is something I wouldn't trade for the world. But that's not the main reason I love the holiday. I love Thanksgiving because it gives us a reason to show gratitude; not only for the big things in life, but for the little things also.

This year, Thanksgiving was definitely different than usual. But that doesn't mean we weren't able to be thankful. Although this hasn't been the best year for anyone, there are still lots of things to be grateful for. Food, water, shelter, health, things, characteristics, friends, family, life, etc...

If you are still alive and breathing, there is something to be thankful for.

Giving thanks is a great way to celebrate a holiday, but it shouldn't be limited to only one day out of 365. Being thankful and showing gratitude is something we have the ability to do every single day of every year. The act of gratitude is not confined to the barriers of one day alone; it is not confined at all.

God calls us to be thankful always. He calls us to use the free gift of gratitude He has given us and he wants us to use it in all circumstances (yes even in 2020). It doesn't matter what is going on in the world around us because we have a God who is doing amazing things in us.

We are to thank Him for everything, even the things we don't really like or wish were different, because we never know what He could do through that circumstance. We might not choose those things for ourselves, but we can choose to be thankful anyway. We can choose to be thankful all of the time, not just one day of the year.
